Eating three lunches a day, getting really into dill, putting it on everything, invariably monitoring any potential slips in anosmia and ageusia. Does this smell as herbal, grassy, mossy as it always did? Does it taste as much as it always did? I put on lipstick for the first time in three weeks, boring-bright red. It will be a surprise, for when I catch my reflection in the mirror. Three minutes later, about to slip on a bandana face-mask, I need to smudge off the lipstick. Was I so bad at lipstick scheduling before? Yes, I think. My partner made the bandana-mask for me with their favorite flagging bandana and two rubber bands. I take the dog up the steepest hill first. I’ve started letting him lead the direction. Outside, the animals are so bold! At the wrong times. A skunk earlier that day, at 8 A.M., shuffling down the street like one-half of a comedy duo. Mockingbirds fly so low to me, I don’t know if I’m there. My partner’s bandana-mask keeps slipping down their chin. Before they leave to pick up the takeout, we kiss through our masks. The fabric isn’t as thick as I thought it’d be. I put lipstick back on when I return to the house, but it escapes during our Chinese takeout feast.
