"If Spring in NYC is when we shed our winter coats and present ourselves anew, the pandemic has blown up that paradigm. Outlandish protective gear is all the rage. I was inspired by the creativity of folks who wear pool noodles for instance to enforce social distancing in public. The character in the 4-panel comic, I saw him across the street from me carrying groceries a few weeks ago. Masks, visors and other PPE have been hard to get hold of, so his provisioning made a big impression on me! Moments later, I clocked him unmasked and eating chips. Really, who doesn’t find it challenging to resist snacking on the way home from the market? We’re all confronting those impulses in a pandemic; despite the fact that this ambulating snacker was oblivious to me, I felt seen. Inevitably, we feel safest and best protected right now by the comforts of home."
